The Cy-Fair CERT Amateur Radio Communications (CFCARC) group is made up of very active ham radio operators who regularly participate in field exercises to improve their skills and test communications. They are capable of assisting the CFVFD and other local responders if there is a major event. They support community events such as the BP MS150.
CERT Volunteers Needed to Assist CFCARC Radio Operators for Triathlon!! If you’ve considered obtaining your Ham Radio license and would like to learn about some of the volunteer opportunities they participate in, this this is a great chance to volunteer with them and observe.
Fairfield Sprint Triathlon
Date: 2017 Dates to be determined
Location: Fairfield Community, US 290W & Mason Rd.
Number of Cy-Fair CERT volunteers needed : 5 to10
Details: This is a single-day event tightly packed with multiple races occurring sequentially: adult triathlon, kid triathlon, adult duathlon, etc. Our CFCARC (Cy-Fair CERT Amateur Radio Committee) is the sole organization to provide radio support for the whole event. CFCARC members are assigned to strategic locations on a given race route. As race changes throughout the day, route changes accordingly. As such, CFCARC members are redeployed to their next assigned locations. So the whole day is very fluid and dynamic. We are asking Cy-Fair CERT (non-ham) members to pair up with our CFCARC members so CFCARC members can focus on radio communication and the Cy-Fair CERT non-ham members can assist the off-duty police officers (hired by the event organizer) and other volunteers in managing the race routes and ensuring proper and safe traffic flow.
